Hi Matt, I´m 16 this year and I want to know how you became a professional footballer at such a young age. I´m wondering how to do it and if it´s too late for me. I play as a midfielder/striker and I´m not as fit as I used to be because I´m not playing regularly for a club. My friend´s brother got scouted for Doncaster Rovers and is now in the reserve team at the age of 16.
I was spotted by Walsall when I was quite young and joined them at 11. In a way it was just lucky that they saw me when they did and that´s how most players get started. If you´re doing well for your club and they have any contacts with professional sides they can give you an in. You´re not too old at 16 to get spotted. A lot of players go into non-league sides and don´t join league clubs until they´re in their late teens or even 20s. You just have to play as much as possible and play like there is a scout watching every time. Best of luck.
